cocoa applesauce spiced cake recipe

Make this in a loaf pan and serve as a tea cake.

Cocoa Applesauce Spiced Cake

Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon mace
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce, unsweetened
  • 1/2 cup melted butter, unsalted
Procedure
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Line bottom of loaf pan with wax paper and butter paper.
  2. Whisk the dry ingredients together. Add in walnuts and raisins to coat, then the applesauce and melted butter. Pour into prepared pan, and bake 1 hour or until cake tests clean. Let rest in pan 15 minutes before turning onto cooling rack.
